ARTIST BIO Rachel Taylor
Since completing a Bachelor of Arts in Photography at RMIT in 2000, Rachel has practiced in a variety of
photography fields including the areas of community cultural development, education, documentary, fashion, fine
art, annual reports, and performing arts. She has also received several photographic awards
including gold and silver awards from the Australian Institute of Professional Photography [AIPP].
In 2003 Rachel began developing, designing and facilitating photography and new media based projects as a
tool for community cultural development. These initial projects created a keen interest for her to
become more involved in this area of work and led her to undertake a Graduate Diploma in Creative
Media – Film and Television at RMIT followed by a Masters Degree in Community Cultural Development
that she completed in 2010 at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne.
During Rachel's time working in both a Community Cultural Development and Educational context she has
managed, designed and facilitated numerous creative arts projects for a diverse range of participant
groups including youth, disability, long-term homeless, indigenous, adult and mental health often
concentrating on a specific theme such as cultural awareness, sexual identity, relationships, critical
thinking, life skills, binge drinking, workplace related skills, Human Rights or the environment.
Rachel's extensive experience in designing and facilitating creative photography-based projects has given her a
specialised range of skills, attitudes and knowledge critical to effectively ensure project relevance,
participant engagement and good management to meet a variety of outcomes, timelines and budgets.
